"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31
Thank you for your amazing blog about your mission experiences. We have been reading it (stalking it?) for several months, probably without your knowledge. I tried to post a comment once, but not sure it was accepted.
My wife, Laurie and I have received our call to serve in the Spain Barcelona Mission and we enter the MTC on January 18th. She just retired from 18 years of teaching and I'm retiring in December. We're working on visas, etc., all stuff that you are quite familiar with. From your posts, we think we are perhaps about the same age and we're feeling blessed to be in a position where we can serve a senior couple mission, perhaps a little sooner than we had anticipated. Like you, we're wondering how we can possibly leave our children and ten precious grandchildren, but it will just have to happen! We are grateful for Skype/Facetime.
While we know things can and do change, we are anticipating serving in the Balearic Islands working with the Young Single Adult programs. We anticipate living on Mallorca and periodically visiting the branches in Menorca and Ibiza. We think our experience will be much like your experience in the Canaries.
Sorry to leave such a lengthy message, but wanted you to know that we've learned a lot from your excellent posts and descriptions of your mission. We are from Lehi, Utah so we took interest in your photo of the family you ran into, but Lehi is getting to be a big place and we did not recognize them. Because one of my work associates lives in the same home ward as the Arnetts, we have been limited Facebook friends with them. It was interesting to see them in one of your recents posts.
In parting, we enjoy your comments and photos of all the wonderful food you've shared with the missionaries and others. That is so kind of you to share with them. We love the young missionaries and realize how much they appreciate it when the more seasoned (OK, "older") missionaries take an interest in them.
We hope to meet you two sometime and finally taste Jewish Sweet Bread!
